 PURGE OUT THE OLD

MEMORY VERSE: - Joshua 1:1-2 - "After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord , the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites" (NIV).

Our text today shows us the end of one era and the beginning of a new one. The death of Moses marks an end to an era and the emergence of Joshua marks the beginning of a new one. Now understand that until the first was taken away, the second couldn't have spring forth.

God always takes away one to establish the other (Heb. 10:9) . You can't have both old and new mix together, otherwise it will be ruined. You must take out the old that has not been favourable, beneficial, valuable to you so that the new can come forth.

Jesus said, "No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse. And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles. Mark 2:21-22 KJV.

Paul also admonished us to purge out the old leaven, (yeast) so we can be made clean and new. (1 Corinthians 5:7). We must flush out or purge out the old habits, old lifestyles, old character that are not befitting for our new status in Christ from us.

A lot of people would have gained more than where they are at right now in life, but bad habits and character had stood against them. Many great opportunities has been lost due to such wrong lifestyles.

Whenever one is holding on to the old, he or she can not move forward in life because the old stands as a resistance to the new. Therefore, break off the relationship with the old and through grace, start a new life in accordance with the truth of God's Word  


 PRAYER 

Thank you Jesus for the brand new life you have given me. Today I ask that you give me all the grace that I need to break off from bad habits and character that are not in line with my new life in You, Amen.
