UNFADING BEAUTY

MEMORY VERSE: - 1 Peter 3:3-4 - “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

First of all, this message in this text is not just for wife's but for all believers.... Now, we must understand that this verse isn’t saying that we should not take care of ourselves or look good and presentable. The God of all beauty has no problem with us looking good in our appearance.

So, Peter is telling us to not focus our attention on outward beauty but on right character. If one has outward beauty with stinking character, it amounts to nothing. We must have the inward beauty, which is the beauty of the heart, it is the beauty that is rooted in character, the beauty of good behavior, it is the beauty of a meek and quiet spirit.

Now! this doesn't mean one should be dumb and stupid but it's about dealing with life in a wise and smart way. Great character is priceless, it is a great and outstanding virtue and one must strive to have such virtue. The scripture says, “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.” Proverbs 31:10. Although this verse talks about a wife, but it's a lesson for all to learn from, whether male or female, old or young.

Everyone needs to have a noble character. So, it tells us that the key to her beauty is in her noble character, which is worth much more than rubies. People easily noticed the outward beauty because that's what they see first but it takes knowing one in true knowledge and relationship to identify the inner beauty.

Our outward appearance is important. We should do everything we can to maintain or enhance it, but it is not the criteria for the beauty that God approves. It doesn't matter how attractive a person is on the outside; if they are bad character, they are not beautiful in God's sight. It’s terrible to be attractive on the outside, and be lacking the inward beauty that is noble and priceless, the unfading beauty.
